Infant Mental Health Project
Information on the 1 day, 3 day and 4 day programmes offered by the project is available here - download PDF documents.
This is a three-year national project, funded by the Scottish Executive’s National Programme for Improving Mental Health and Well-being, to identify, develop, and deliver the training and support which will increase the capacity of local front-line staff to understand the issues surrounding infant mental health, the likely successful interventions, and to be confident in assessing situations and applying practical solutions. In line with Scottish Executive best practice, the project will work in partnership with other organisations with an interest in infant mental health.
The strategic objective is to influence working practice and capacity beyond the life of the project by:
• Developing and delivering training and support to frontline staff which is replicable and transferable. Ideally the model of training developed will be disseminated to and replicated by other trainers outside this project.
• Embed, as part of the professional culture of people working with early years and their families, an understanding and appreciation of the long term importance to national wellbeing of infant mental health, and the benefits of early intervention.
This project fits with Priority Areas A and F of the Scottish Executive’s National Programme for Improving Mental Health and Well-being :
- A: Early Years
- F: Improving the Ability of Public Services to Act in Support of the Promotion of Mental Health and the Prevention of Mental Illness
